Mark and Mitt

Old Boy, Mark Cohon, may have been a tad modest this morning in assembly when he told the Upper School boys that he was just “an average or slightly better than average student.” (There aren’t too many “average” students with degrees from Northwestern University.)

No matter what his transcript says, though, it’s easy to see why Mark was appointed the Commissioner of the Canadian Football League 4 years ago; he is blessed with terrific social skills.

Last week I heard New York Times columnist, David Brooks, stress the importance of being able to “connect” with people, and he shared a quick story about Mitt Romney.

“ I saw Mitt walk into a diner in New Hampshire with his 5 perfect sons: Rip, Lip, Nip, Pip, and Bip. And a half hour later, when he walked out of that diner, he said goodbye to everyone there, and he addressed each and every patron by name. ”
