Hong Kong, China
While I am clearly not the most interesting man in the world, let me begin by admitting that I don’t often read the “South China Morning Post” but when I do, I look for headlines that surprise me.
Today, for example, the SCMP broke the story that Bob Dylan has just received permission from the Chinese Central Government to perform concerts in Beijing and Shanghai this spring.
I didn’t know Dylan was alive, let alone that he is still on tour. The good news is that at 69, he can still belt out “Forever Young.” What’s a bit unsettling, though, is the realization that this 60’s rebel actually agreed to have his concerts censored by the Chinese authorities.
I wonder what will go through the minds of his Chinese fans when the “government approved” Dylan sings “The Times They Are a Changin”?
Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside and it is ragin’
It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’
