Challenging Reality

I frequently talk of courage, from the security of my prep school bunker in Toronto, of course. Others, though, speak of this virtue without ever relying on words.

Last Thursday, television sets in upscale Chinese hotels went blank for several minutes because Liu Xiabo, a 54 year-old writer had just won the Nobel Prize.

Xiabo, a dissident, points out, “In China everyone has the courage to shamelessly challenge morals; rare are those who have the courage to challenge reality.”
